It will indeed be another big day come November 15. Just like the previous fights, I’m definitely sure millions of Filipinos will be glued to their television screens and witness one of the biggest boxing fights this year. It seems the fight is everyone’s buzz wherever you go. But a big question remains unanswered as to who will become victorious in this Sunday’s fight. Have you placed your bet anyway? Here’s a snapshot of two great boxers on earth.

After a monstrous opening sale of tickets last Monday August 17, 2009 for the Miguel Cotto-Manny Pacquiao Pay Per View showdown, billed as “Firepower,” less than 1,000 tickets remain at the 16,200-seat MGM Grand Garden Arena. All of the 9,000 seats at $150, $350 and $500 are completely sold out. The available seats are at the $1,000 and $750 price categories. CEO of Top Rank Bob Arum was elated with the huge response. “We are looking forward to making Pacquiao vs Cotto as one of the greatest box office and Pay Per View successes of all-time,” he said.

Fight Predictions

Trent:Both of these men are dangerous fighters, but the current wave of momentum greatly favors Manny Pacquiao. Freddie Roach has done an excellent job of scouting Pacquiao’s opponents, and his confidence in Pacquiao alone is enough for me to side with Pacman. If Cotto comes out of the weigh-in looking strong then I might want to change my opinion. Miguel Cotto is the biggest puncher that Manny Pacquiao has ever been in the ring with. He can most certainly put an early end to Pacquiao’s evening. But all the other intangibles are in Manny’s favor. Cotto also has a propensity to cut easily; never a good thing when you are in the ring with Manny Pacquiao. As long as Manny is careful in his exchanges, I see a 116-112 win for Pacman”.

Corey Willinger: “Miguel Cotto has been getting the raw end of this deal since the beginning, and I don’t expect things to get any better for him on fight night. He’s been forced to put his title on the line without reason, and he’s battling history as Pacquiao attempts to become the first “seven-division” champion. The fact that he is a natural welterweight was Cotto’s only real advantage coming in, and Freddie Roach has effectively taken that away by having him weigh in at 145 pounds. The speedier Pacquiao will start finding his range after a round or two and will be ahead on the cards when he forces a tenth round stoppage over a bloodied Cotto. Hopefully Miguel finds the beating, both in and out of the ring, worth every penny”.

Bryan Trafford:My prediction for the Pacquiao/Cotto fight is Pacquiao by unanimous decision. I don’t think he will knock Cotto out, but I do see him outboxing him over twelve rounds. I think Pacquiao will look to give Cotto angles, and get in and get out. I don’t think Manny will engage in a slugfest, to his own better judgment. This fight will be more competitive than his last two fights, but Pacmania will continue to run wild”.

New Born Divas

November 7, 2009

I have this fascination over good performers-especially singers. Perhaps, that’s the reason why I’m so frustrated whenever I sing. I rarely watch television these days as I normally sleep in the morning and go to work at night. I only get to watch plenty of tv programs whenever I go to my family back there in Tanay and spend my off days with them. It’s my first time to watch this new portion of Eat Bulaga called Sing-Eat. At first, I thought it’s gonna be a guess-the-next-word-of-the-song like contest. But when I continued watching it, I realized this is another big thing to hit Philippine show.

NEw Born Divas were the second group and they performed Donna Summer’s ”Enough is Enough”. I’m so impressed with their style and performance I think they deserve a place here in my blog. Enjoy watching!!  I hope to see more of them in the next few months!

About Working..

November 6, 2009

The way I see it, working is something that can’t be removed from our daily lives. It’s already a part of our daily routine. Even in simple things, we work. We do plain things we think are just ordinary things. but we dont know we’re already working.

I’m pretty sure the term working has always been a relevant word in our minds since our early days. When I was just an elementary student, I have always asked myself why does a person need to work and in my case, I started thinking what work would fit me when I grow up. I care about working because I see my parents working for my family. Everytime I see them at home, they’re a bit stressed caused by their jobs .My mom is a college professor and my dad is now a retired soldier. High school days made my thinking about work a lot complicated. I have thought of going to university to teach just like my mom. But I realized that one teacher in the family is enough. And then, I have thought of becoming a hotel boy. But nope. I know I’m gonna be good in college and I want a high-paying job. I even thought of becoming a pilot, a flight attendant or simply a businessman. But I want to be a career person. Someday, i hope that will realize.

I have been working for almost 2 years. I can’t imagine that I have been sacrificing and making myself too much busy for almost 2 years now. I can even imagine the very first part-time job I had when I was in 3rd year college. I became a part of the telemarketing team of PR and Marketing Dept of my  university-Lyceum of the Philippines. Working from 4pm til 8pm right after my 5 classes was pretty hectic for me during the first few days. But then I got used to it. I didn’t realize that the  job’s gonna make a big impact to what I am today. The work required me a lot of patience and dedication. In fact, I was even a scholar during this time. My perseverance bore so much outcomes. The hard-earned income (tax-free, hehe) goes to my monthly dorm rentals and the excess become part of my allowance. In this way, my parents don’t have much to worry about me.

I decided not to renew my contract with the PR Dept. During this time, a big opportunity knocked on my door. I worked for APAC Customer Services, a BPO company located in Cubao. Yeah, it’s a call center. I applied during semestral break when I learned staying at the dorm would not do good at all. Actually, even before I applied here, I have confidently submitted my CVs and went through hot interviews in 3 other call centers. Too bad, I didnt pass them and they all gave me one reason- because I’m still a student. And so before going to APAC, I have strategized a bit to assure of a good spot in the company. I just lied. Of course, companies want to work with people who are committed and are always available. If you’re a student, the chance of passing is very very slim. I just said during my interview that my parents just got laid off and  I have no choice but to leave school and look for a good work. After a few days, I just found myself inside the walls of the company, undergoing hard trainings and having a taste of what they call the graveyard shift. Haha. But after a month, I had to tell my team lead, who was very supportive of my endeavor, that I will be going to school the following semester. She agreed anyways. So basically, for my one year and three months of stay in APAC, I was studying at the same time. Student in the morning, an agent at night.

Today, I work for VXI Global Holdings, another call center compay in  Makati. I had previously told myself that I’m not gonna  work in a call center environment anymore. But I was wrong. Totally wrong. I don’t know. The moment I learned that this company can pay me twice as much as what I earn from APAC, I didn’t think twice. Oh my golly. The account I handle is so prestigious I can’t let go of it. Running away is so difficult. Perhaps, God has good plans for me this time. I know some of my classmates and friends would give a frown when they learn that I work this way. What’s important right now, I earn money. Well, much money.
