Go Team Philippines!

December 10, 2009

The 25th edition of the South East Asian Games is currently being held in the infamous country of Laos which is celebrating its very first hosting of the event.

With the help of foreign countries such as China, Japan, Brunei, South Korea, Vietnam and Thailand, Laos eagerly built a national sports complex and refurbished existing facilities. The vast complex, built at a cost of $100 million, sits on a 125-hectare site in Dong Sanghine Village in Seythany District. It is composed of two indoor stadiums, each can accommodate 3,000 people.

More than 5,000 athletes from 11 countries will be housed at the Games Village located at the National University.

This Games’ edition has sparked many complaints from member countries especially cutting down the number of games that will be hosted. From 43 games played two years ago in Thailand, only 25 games will be played this year in Laos. Basketball, a game we Filipinos are most definitely excited to watch for, is one of the many games that will not be seen this year .

I really hope that Team Philippines will make a good finish by the end of the Games. I think we finished fourth last year, behind defending Champion Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. I hope we could make it to the top 3 once again.
